Honors World History 1 Civ Dig

The Honors World 1 History classes participated in a cross class project during the first quarter call the Civilization Dig.  In this multi-stepped project, small groups of students used concepts from the 1st quarter to create their own civilization.  They had to explain various aspects of their creations using features of civilization such as government, cities, writing, and job specialization.  Then they had to create artifacts that would exemplify the civilization’s traits.  The artifacts were “buried” in boxes for other students to unearth.  The classes got together in the outdoor classroom to portray archeologist and discover these lost worlds.  Students theorize the purpose of artifacts and tried to determine the features of these civilizations.  Some of their theories were spot on, others missed the mark, as archeologist often do.  In the end, students learned about the challenges that history has for us as we try to uncover the past.
