West Springfield Receives the Virginia Purple Star Designation
West Springfield High School has been awarded the 2022-2023 Purple Star Designation. This year, West Springfield High School along with several other schools across the Commonwealth are being recognized for its military-friendly structure, according to the VDOE and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.
More about the Award:
Virginia supports more than 79,000 students from military families across the state. To qualify for a Purple Star, schools must have a staff member designated as the point of contact for military students and families. Schools must also demonstrate their commitment to meeting the needs of military students by providing student/peer transition teams, resources, and programming on issues important to military families. The Virginia Department of Education’s Military Student Support Process Action Team, (MSSPAT) formed by the Virginia Department of Education, reviewed all school applications for the award. Final approval on awards was made by members of the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children. Getting "Purple Star" status means a school showed a commitment to providing resources and meeting the needs of those military children and their families.
Thank you to our Military Families Support Team and staff at West Springfield for all their hard work to support military families and students at our school.
