2019-2020 SOL Testing
COVID-19 and Virginia Public Schools
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) continues to evaluate the rapidly changing situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. We understand this is an uncertain and stressful time, and we will provide updated information about SOL testing requirements as it becomes available. FCPS and VDOE continue to evaluate options that provide flexibility in meeting requirements, while prioritizing community health and safety. View updates on the VDOE website here.
March 2020 English Writing SOL
The Writing SOL will be administered to all students in English 11 and English 11 Honors on Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11. (Students in AP English Language & Composition are not required to take the Writing SOL test in March. A score of 2 or higher on the AP English Language exam in May will substitute for the Writing SOL.)
Students are required to use their FCPSOn laptops for SOL testing. Students should bring their fully charged FCPS laptops and chargers for all SOL tests. Personal devices may not be used. Please contact Kim Nelson (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have opted out of the FCPSOn program but will be taking SOL tests in Spring 2020. (Devices will be provided for students who have officially opted-out of the program.)
May 2020 SOL Testing
SOL tests will be administered at WSHS beginning on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. (Students testing with paper/pencil instead of online may test earlier.) Designated makeup testing days are May 20-21 and expedited retakes will be administered May 27-29.
Letters were mailed home to parents in January indicating which SOL tests students will be expected to take in May 2020. Students who have a choice to fulfill the Student-Selected Test requirement will meet with the WSHS Assessment Coach and their counselor the week of March 23-27 to indicate their choice. Please contact your student's counselor if you have questions about which tests your student should take in May.
2019-2020 Notification of Testing
Under Virginia Law, students in grades 3-12 are expected to take part in the Virginia Assessment Program. For most students, this means annual SOL testing. Please visit the FCPS SOL Parent Notification page to see which students will take which SOL tests. Translations are available.
2018-2019 SOL Scores
The FCPS Office of Student Testing mailed official Standards of Learning (SOL) score reports to parents/guardians in August 2019 after all data was validated by the Virginia Department of Education. At that time, parents/guardians will also received access to updated student longitudinal SOL test history in SIS ParentVue. Additional explanations for SOL Results and are available online.
