WSHS Journalism Student Selected for JCamp Summer Cohort

Paula De Megret-Murray was chosen as one of 30 students to attend JCamp (Journalism Camp) from a pool of more than 450 applicants across the United States. Paula will spend a fully funded week at American University to receive hands-on training from professional journalists.

WSHS Freshman Earns FCPS Science and Engineering Fair Grand Prize!

Samuel Stankiewicz won first place in the Computer Science and Mathematics categories, and the overall Grand Prize for the Regional FCPS Science and Engineering for his project, "Simulated Brokerage for Novice Investors." Sam is the first West Springfield student (in known history) to win the Grand Prize.

Growing Your Career Fair

Students from West Springfield recently had the opportunity to participate in the Fort Belvoir Growing Your Career Fair, hosted at the National Museum of the Army. The event was a networking career and education fair offering transitioning service for military members, military spouses dependents, and veterans, giving participants the opportunity to connect with career enhancement programs, certification programs, employer sponsored internships, fellowships and degree programs.

Enrique (Kiki) Camarena was a Mexican-American man working for the DEA after serving in the Marine Corps, being a fireman, police officer, and deputy sheriff in California. While on assignment in Mexico for four years, he was on the trail of the country’s biggest marijuana and cocaine traffickers. He was getting close to exposing a multi-billion dollar drug pipeline in 1985, until he was kidnapped that February. He was headed to lunch with his wife when he was last seen being thrown into a van by masked men, his body wasn’t discovered until a month later.
