Congratulations to Ms. Maria Canas on his recognition as the Summer 2023 FCPS CARES Region 4 Recipient of the Month, presented by the FCPS Department of Human Resources.

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the remarkable dedication and hard work of Maria Canas. Maria is the building supervisor at West Springfield High School and supported us at West Springfield Elementary School when we were down two custodians this summer. Maria would work weekends and evenings to help us prepare for the school year, but beyond that, she mentored and supported our new Assistant Building Supervisor on best practices in cleaning. What truly set her apart was her willingness to lend a helping hand even when it’s beyond her role and responsibilities is a testament to her strong work ethic and remarkable character. She meticulously took care of our school as if it was her own. Her impact is deeply felt, seen, and truly appreciated. Our building looks beautiful thanks to her!
