Paula De Megret-Murray was chosen as one of 30 students to attend JCamp (Journalism Camp) from a pool of more than 450 applicants across the United States. She will spend a fully funded week at American University this summer to receive hands-on training from professional journalists.

JCamp is a very selective journalism opportunity, typically only admitting 24 students per cohort. The JCamp application process is involved, requiring prospective students to submit a two-minute video talking about themselves and what their experiences have been in journalism. Paula has participated in the New York Times journalism camp, has her own personal BLOG, and her work has been highlighted on NPR! At West Springfield, Paula writes for our award-winning student run school newspaper, The Oracle.

At JCamp, Paula hopes to delve into the political sphere and learn all about political journalism.

Paula is the daughter of career educators, with both of her parents currently serving as teachers in FCPS. She credits her parents influence for her passions to both want to communicate to others and to make a change for good in the world.
