The Virginia History Day competition went virtual this year and seven West Springfield students competed in five different categories against students from across the state. All West Springfield students who participated did an outstanding job representing our school, and each placed in the top three for their categories.

• 3^rd Place Group Exhibit: Zaida Gyamfi and Elijah Smith
• 2^nd Place Group Documentary: Meg Hogan and Trinity Green
• 2^nd Place Individual Documentary: Sumaya Zahid
• 1^st Place Individual Exhibit: Mary Pflaum

Our students also received two special awards, which are sponsored and judged by different organizations around the state. Sumaya Zahid received the George Washington Leadership Award and Meg Hogan and Trinity Green won the John Marshall Foundation Prize for Political History and Civics.

The 1^st and 2^nd place projects will go on the compete at the National History Day competition in June against students from around the all 50 states and several international affiliates. Best of luck to these students, and congratulations to everyone who participated!
